05 noticstar 230 deck boat i/o 5.0 merc. When the boat is forward on the trailer with bow and bow hook against the trailer bow rollers and the wench is tight in a horizonal line but the boat bow is on about a 45 deg angle to the trailer bow rollers so when I hit a bump in the road the boat can bounce up (off the trailer bow rollers) because the trailer frame flexes from the front cross member forward. This means the the boat bow is pounding on the trailer bow rollers at road bumps. should the boat bow be tied verticily to the trailer making the boat and trailer a unitized unit? Im concerned about the flexing of the trailer frame developing fatige cracks but I dont see any other people with boat tied to frame. thank for any in put.

Re: how should my boat fit?

Just add one of these to keep your bow from moving up. If I understand your question of the bow bouncing up.

Also make sure your winch line is below your bow stop (not above it).

The bow ring of the boat should be below the bow stop to help keep the bow down. The pic below does not show the boats bow ring very well since they are showing you what the extra hold down strap looks like attached.

But you can always add the strap in the link below too.

A pic of what you are trying to do would help.

I did just that . . . a strap from the boat bow tie verticly to the trailer but on the first bump it snapped.

Spring for a better quality strap. I just used the iboats $10 strap pic as an example. You could use a piece of chain mounted by a bolt thru the frame or attached to a nut that's already on the bottom of the winch but it will be noisy.

To post pics: open a free account with photobucket.com
Save a pic to your desk top. Go into photobucket and upload the pic by browsing to your desk top pic. It only takes a few sec.

Set the size in options to 640 x 480 (or the forum will say its to big)

Then move the mouse over the pic in your photobucket album and 4 links open up. Highllight the last one: IMG code and copy whats in that box.

Then paste that link to your post in the forum.

By the way, if it bounces up that much you may not have enough tongue weight. Place the tongue on a board on top of a bathroom scale and see if it's around 10-15 lbs. If not you may have to move the winch post towards the trailer ball a few inches and move the whole boat an inch at a time forward until you get enough tongue weight.

I believe you want 10% - 15% of the total weight on the tongue. Also sounds to me like you may need to move your boat forward on the trailer if your bouncing that much.

Did you see my post directly above yours which was posted yesterday. I thought I was starting to stutter when I read your post
Or are you just trying to make Admiral :D
