hey guys.

there is a boat for sale here locally for cheap. it's in better shape than mine, except the leg is gone (gear). I have a 1992 90hp evinrude, and I was wondering if the years are similar (I don't even know what year the 135 hp is) what are the chances I could swap my leg???

I'm guessing not very good..........but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I've searched, and found posts that say you can upgrade a 90 to a 115, but thats not what I wanted to know. I also found that a 135 is a large v4.......I gues my 90 is a small v4

thanx for the info.

I believe that you are talking about two different lower units. The 135's were earlier motors that turned into 140's early in the 80's. I am sure that someone can give you a more definative answer soon, but I do not believe that those two engines use the same lower units.

That is correct. The lower units have different mounting bolt patterns. Basically the 135 unit is the same as the V4 units from 73 to 76 and the same as 1977 20" 85 hp & 115 hp. The 77 140 & newer V4 units are longer.

There was a 135 looper(large) V4 produced too. Can it take either of the late V4 cases as well as the V6 cases?

Yes, the 130 looper can accept any V4 unit from 1979 on, any V6 unit from 79 on as well as the V8 case (talk about a gear ratio mis-match....)
