As you all know I have many 10's all over the place. I now have an opportunity to pick up an old ~1970 9.5hp disassembled in a box for around $30. I have never had one of these before so what I'm wondering is are any of the parts the same at all? Are the LU gears the same as that alone would make it worthwhile for me. thx.

Without comparing part numbers, I believe the lower unit is the same except for the drive shaft and water pump. Coils, etc are the same. Everything else is a totally different critter.

Yes, lower unit is the same as the 1958-63 10 hp.

Cool, then it's worth getting it. I ALWAYS need 10hp LU's! Thanks guys. What about the fuel pump? It looks the same in the pic I can see of it.

The 9.5 hp OMC motor is very different as compared to anything else that the company made. I am actually surprised that the gearcase is compatible with the 10 hp model. The fuel pump should be the same and I wouldn't be surprised if the basic ignition parts are too. Other than those things, all else is most likely not compatible with any other motor.

If you can get it going, they are great little motors. I've never worked on one but I am told that you just have to learn the tricks to getting at certain things. I would imagine that maing a few special tools goes with the territory too.

What the heck, for $30 I say go for it!
