how smooth should the lower unit feel?

I just resealed and put fresh lube in my 55 15hp lower unit, I can't imagine I got something out of place but in gear (F and R), turning the prop I can distinctly feel the teeth clicking together, I might just be paranoid but it feels a little rough to me. The unit is still off of the motor.
On the plus side it doesn't leak anymore

just to further clarify it's smooth in neutral and clicks/clunks with the prop turned either way in F and R, it's like a diff set too loose and you can feel each spider engaging. I keep going over putting it back together in my head and can't think of anything I could have even come close to getting out of place
