How strong should the stream comming out of tailtale be

I have a 1979 Evinrude 175 and was wandering how much pressure the water comming out of tailtale(if thats what you call it) should be

We call it tell-tale. If it's dribbling, it's time to replace the waterpump impeller. You should post this in the Johnson/Evinrude forum. Just remember, it's recommended that you replace the impeller and thermostats every other year.

I would do t-stats every couple of years if you run in salt.

One thing I found out. The tell tale just tells you that you are getting water TO the powerhead; doesn't mean it is getting in. The thermostat can (did) stick on me and the engine overheat buzzer went off and I had a very strong stream.<br /><br />Put the thermostat in a pot of water to to the boiling point and she never opened. 120 was stamped on the bottom of the pellet and as you know boiling water at sea level is 212.<br /><br />My 2c<br /><br />Mark

2-4 lbs at idle is normal.
