The drain screw is on the same side front, bottom of the bullet. Fill from the bottom drain till it comes out the top vent screw in you photo

Ok I found it , but what I don't understand is how the lube stays in the lower unit with the all the holes in it.

there is actually only three holes in the lower unit. The drain hole-the vent
(upper)hole and the big hole for the propeller shaft. The Bullet part of the
lower unit is a closed system...

If you haven't already, invest $10 in a gear lube pump. Lots easier than squeezing tubes.

Thoses holes were not part of the enclosed gears system. They are water pick-up holes for the water-cooling system.

Negative Saumon, you missed what was highlighted in the photos.

Can't remember seeing them on my motor but they could be drain holes for water from the midsection. Not likely access to the actual LU gearcase.

Not sure what gaskets you need, for the drain plug/screw?? You can find parts diagrams for your motor here:

http://www.mercruiserparts.com/SelectModelType3.asp?class_id=2

Then you can look up parts numbers at this site in the Parts section or try www.boatfix.com

As far as the holes you have circled in red in the pics, they are "cavity drains" which will allow water to drain out of the "free flood" areas of the lower unit. You need these drains, otherwise water would be entrapped in various cavities at the top of the lower unit and it could freeze over the winter, damaging the gearcase.

These holes are totally outside the oil-containing parts of the gearcase and you shouldn't worry about them unless they are plugged-up with debris.

Check out this old post which contains some good general information on changing out your gear oil:

Any boat shop will have them, usually in a 2 pack. I made the ,istake of buying from the Yamaha dealer, they soaked me a buck apiece for them.

Don't use teflon tape. Its not the threads that provide the seal, it is a compression type seal between the head of the screw and the face of the screw hole.

I have started using o-rings in place of the usual flat fiber washer. I find I can re-use the o-rings while the fiber washers are a one shot deal.

As mentioned, you should be able to locate those drain plug gaskets at any marine supply shop. I used to pay about $1.00 ea also.
