How to adjust arms that push on needle in carburetor?

Does anyone know how to adjust the two arms that the float pushes up into the needle on a Mercury 1972 402 40 HP. I know you can bend them to change when they contact the needle but dont know the factory specs or measurements. Can someone tell me or guide me in the right direstion to find this info.
