How to Build/Install Motor Mounts

I am planning on repowering from a Volvo 4 banger that does not have front motor mounts to a motor that does.
So I have a few questions regarding building and placement of the new mounts.

1. If the stringers in the boat do not line up with the mounts is it ok to make one big mount that travels under the motor?
   
2. What materials are best for the mounts?
   
3. How should the mounts be fitted to the hull?
   
4. When using lag bolts, is it better to drill a pilot first then insert the lag bolt?
   
5. Should the lag bolts be glued/glassed in position?
