Re: How to buy house(N.CA) for little down?
Howdy Hienz.....

In order for you to be able to buy a home in the bay area, assuming you work near Concord, I would suggest you look in your area. I take it you have lived there for a while, so you are aware of the price of housing in the bay area.

Get a copy of The Contra Costa Times and go thru the real estate section, as well as the Sunday editions the San Jose Mercury News and the San Francisco Chronicle.

When you are at the super market, get a copy of the free real estate magazines, usually by the doors or outside.

You can go to
www.realtor.com and go to the area you would like live in. This site lists many, many homes in all price ranges. I use it frequently, as I have been wanting to sell my two homes here for a couple of years and move to Hairyzona, either with or without my wife.

Your best bet would be to look in the east bay. If you want to move to the peninsula side, count on spending a minium of $350.000 on a older 3 bedroom, 2 bath house, IF you can find one in a decent area for that price. The farther down toward the center of the peninsula you go, the prices keep going up and UP.

The days of buying an FHA reposession are basicaly over, although you might not want to raise children where they tend to pop-up.
The repo's are usually snapped up by real estate company's, real estate agents and speculators, who do what needs to restore the house and then is returned to the market at full price.

I'm sure you are aware that "over bidding" is still going on, especially here on the West Bay.
Before you read the weekend real estate sections or the real estate books, pour yourself a stiff drink and get a crying towel before you start.

Good luck in your search..........

...Bob in Calif...
(across the bay from you in Woodside)
