That's a possibility, Underpressure. There are other possibilities.

Go to the Engine FAQs Forum and do "Outboard won't start".

Let us know what you find..

hello there ,i removed the power head and removed the intake manifold and to my surprise one reed valve was missing on upper cylinder and had gotten stuck under another reed on the lower cylinder ,found all of the pieces in the motor ,im sure this is the reason for no vacume and no start,do you recommend the boysen power reeds or would you go with oem stock parts?

Unless you doing extensive engine work I would just use the stock reeds. If I'm wrong others will chime in.

Composite reeds will not last as long as the OEM.
