1979 Johnson 70 hp. How do i check power going to & from the powerpack???It was running fine & all of a sudden while idling, it died & wont start back & plugs not firing. What color of wires should i check??? If someone knows what kind of reading should I get before & after going through powerpack ??? Thanks

Re: How to check powerpack???

With plugs removed, and if you're sure that you have NO SPARK on all cylinders..... disconnect the large RED electrical plug at the engine.

Now, crank the engine by using a jumper from the red pos battery cable terminal of the starter solenoid to the small 3/8" nut that engerizes the solenoid.

If you now have spark with that plug disconnected BUT no spark with it connected, the usual cause is a shorted ignition switch, in which case, replace it. Let us know what you find.

If no spark "on all cylinders" with RED plug disconnected, problem is usually the powerpack.
