Forgive my ignorance please. But how do you check the compression? I have a 94 johnson 120, does anyone know what the compression needs to be at? Also, what tools do you need to check the spark? I'm asking all of this becuase I'm trading my boat in tommorrow and as long as the compression and spark test are good, then I'm getting a great deal on my trade in and new boat. Thanks in advance.

So you are trading in your current boat and they told you that as long as the compression and spark are good they would give you a good trade?

Makes sense to me I guess. If the engine ran okay (started, got the boat on plain, and had the expected top speed at WOT) the last time you took it out, they you are probably fine and I would bother trying to check the compression and spark.

Re: how to check the compression

Thanks for the reply Tim. My boat is in great shape and it does plain and run well. They haven't seen my boat in person, just pictures. It is a VERY clean boat and that is why they said what they did. I should be fine. The only reason I'm trading her in is my wife doesn't like the way it sits and rides in the water. It is a fish-n-ski. We are getting a new Glastron s/x 195 with a 4.3 Volvo. It will seat more people(which is another of her concerns) and it does ride much nicer.

Gawd, I just reread my post and found that I sounded barely literate. Oh well, I guess you got the idea. From the sound of it, you have good spark and compression. I would trade with confidence.
