Hey guys I just got through rebuilding my Evinrude 1990 120 and it cranks up and runs fine but I wanted to do some checks on the VRO vacuum switch to make sure it works. The manual dosent say how to test the switch itself. Also any other tips before I put it back in the water are welcome.
Thanks
Hooked

Re: How to check VRO vacuum switch

Since it's procedure to mix 50:1 in fuel tank following an overhaul until you can confirm usage from the VRO oil reservoir, you can run the engine(on the hose) and crimp off the oil inlet to the vro pump and see if the no oil alarm activates. This will simulate a no oil condition.

Hey rodbolt I was wanting to test the no oil alarm Now that you mention it I see in my manual that the vacuum switch they are talking about is seperate from the VRO and you are right mine dosent have one. What needs to be done to disconnect the oil injection and just mix from now on? Can you just cap off the oil inlet and disconnect the wire? or what do you suggest this thing is 14 years old and as you know a new on is about $250 I just dont trust it
Hooked

hello
my suggestion would be to update it as well as the tank pickup assy. VRO works well if taken care of. yours is a tad overdue for maint. good luck and keep posting
