How to Clean Fuel Tank

When I replaced my fuel/water separator, there were a lot of solid particles and even mosquitoes in the gas. The fuel lines from the tank goes to the fuel separator unit directly. I am planning to remove and replace the fuel hose after draining the tank. The tank nipple where the hose connects is about 1-1/2" above the tank floor so I might have to remove the sending unit and siphon the rest using manual pump.

What do you use to clean the tank after gas has been removed?

Any add-on or improvement I can do on the fuel line-such as adding petcock or filter?

Re: How to Clean Fuel Tank

If the particles are suspended you can drain the tank fairly well through the sender access hole as you mentioned. You may not be able to get it all if the tank has internal baffles though. You can use a manual pump or an electric fuel pump but not anything like a wet/dry vac due to the danger of fumes exploding.

If the tank is built-in, can't easily be removed and the crud is stuck to the walls of the tank you may have to live with it by changing filters frequently. I know of no way to clean a built-in.

The tank is boxed-in by marine plywood. I will start with draining it and maybe I could get as much solid particles out. Then as you say, change filters more frequently. Thanks.
