How to clean the block to reinstall heads?

I'm trying to clean the block on my 4.3 to reinstall the heads and intake. I have scraped the surface with a gasket scraper then a razor blade scraper. The block is smooth but obviously not down to bare metal. Will a synthetic scrub like scotchbrite leave abrasive particles in the cylinders like emery cloth might? I want to get it as clean as possible but not leave abrasives in the rings. Thanks, Cliff

Acetone and a razor blade has always done the job for me.

Once you get most of the stuff off you could try lightly draw filing the block and heads. Watch this http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rQYSroXM0Go stuff towels in the cylinder holes to keep filings out.
I believe scotch brite has aluminum oxide embedded in the fibers, so any pieces that drop into the holes could be a problem.

They make gasket remover. It works great but you have to let it soak in.

Gasket remover, a razor blade and vacuum. No matter how many rags I stuff in the bore, crud always gets past, so I use a shop vac.

I use a black and decker spinny thingy from home depot and get some 3m fiber abrasive pads at NAPA along with an adaptor for the pads. Gets it all perfect in a few minutes at 20,000 rpm.
