I have a 1998 40 horse Evinrude. The fuel/oil pump went out and I had a shade tree mechanic put in a regular fuel pump and disconnect the oil line. he couldn't figure out how to disconnect the oil warning beep that comes on when you start the engine. I need to know how to disconnect the beep. Anybody have instructions? By the way I would like to preserve the overheat warning beep. Thanks in advance for your help.

There is a wiring harness coming from the original VRO pump. Unplug the connecter to the harness. If your oil tank is still in the boat remove it. That will disconnect the low oil alarm from the tank.
