How do any of you normally drail engine oil. I bought one of those oil pump you attach a drill to but does not seem to work very well. I could not find a bolt on the bottom of oil pan either?

You have to make sure the connection is air tight. I've had poor experience with the drill pumps. Mama got me a 12volt pump to use this year from Cabellas. Will be using it soon and report back.

engine has a blown head gasket (I hope not a cracked block) so did not want to run and have to suck more water in engine to heat up oil. I'll try to make sure connection is air tight. I had just pushed tube into dipstick tube. where can I get muffs to attach water hose when I want to run engine? Or what are they called I have a stringer on a 1981 beachcraft with 3.8.

You can get muffs at walmart for less than $7.00 and you would be better off with a 12volt pump, it simply connects to your battery. I tried a drill pump last year. They take much longer and thats if you can get it primed. Walmart usually carries the 12 volt pump also. You will find it to be much faster and cleaner to use.

I agree with kjd, I like the oil hand pump too. I have tried the ones that attach to the drill and the electric motor ones, neither worked very well and were more of a hassle than anything. Tempo makes a pretty good hand pump.

Thanks for the info I got a hand pump and it works great. Just pump it about 20 times and oil is pull into container.

Glad to hear you got it working.
One thing to keep in mind, the dipstick tube is a small diameter to start with, if you put a plastic tube inside it, you're working with a very small diameter now.
The most efficient transfer will be to connect to the top of the dipstick.

I use 3/8 urethane tube, it was too small to start with, I heated the end in hot water, placed tips of needle nose pliers in it & opened pliers. Perfect slip on fit now.
