How to extract the most from my motors?

I'd like to know what, apart from a general good state of tune, do people find have worked on getting the most from their motors.
Anything from types of oil, plugs or fuel to those magic sprays, electronic gadgets and potions in cans. I've heard that most of them are rubbish but i'd like to know what actually works. My local workshop was praising a carby spray from Quicksilver which is what started me wondering.

I don't think any of the magic potions are worth the bux, haddles.

Good tuning, regular decarb, ideal trim and optimum prop and rigging make a lot of difference, as do weight distribution in the boat.

To optimize trim, prop and rigging you need a tachometer and some time spent on the Prop Forum.

Good luck. :)

and follow the maint schedule, you can find it for both motors in any of the 03-04-05 and 06 marine technical guides.
pay close attention to the header that say XXX hour OR stress OR XXX mothnts WHICHEVER occur first.
that will do more to maximize you motors than any snake oils.

Yeah, I am a bit of a skeptic myself but there are so many on the market you'd think they couldn't all do nothing could they? Maybe they can. I was just curious really.
Might be a placebo effect on the owner more than an actual performance gain.

Maximize the set up and follow JB & Rodbolt's advise. If the motor's happy, it'll live a very long life.

A poor set up puts the motor in constant stress. It doesn't like stress any more than you or I.

In addition to the above the less work your motor has to do the more you will get out of it. This means keeping the crud off of the bottom of the boat and leaving the "stuff" that you don't really need on shore. I know the first thought that will come to mind is the mother-in-law - - - .
