I have a 70 hp force, the top metal line of the cilynder drips slow. I know to raise the motor all the way and then take the fill nut off ( from reading other forums ) and fill. my questian is do I have to prop the motor up when I have it raised? and what oil do I use, It looks like transmision fluid? do I fill to the top?

WILLYMAZE

Re: how to fill my tilt & trim

If you have an external trim unit, meaning the motor/pump is mounted to the starboard of the main engine, and is connected by 2 lines, then you have to open your fill plug in the DOWN position.

This is an oddball setup compared to the rest of the industry. I have one of these on my 70hp '95 Force.

So, lower the engine, and no need to prop it up.
This unit also used 30 weight motor oil as fluid. 10w 40 is recommended in one of my books.

You fill till the oil is up to the bottom of the hole, or till it runs out on the driveway, whichever is first.

Thanks for the quick reply the cylinder is on the right side of the motor while looking from the prop side ( not sure what starboard side is ). There is a sticker that says to tilt trim full up before opening. there is one line at the bottom and one towards the top. i think mine is a 1992

WILLYMAZE
