how to find the year model of my merc 1150

I was told it was an 88 model when I bought the boat, now I'm replacing wires and I need what seems to be a magnito. how can I find more info on this 115 hp mercury 1150 thunder bolt ignition serial number 4395878

From what I see it comes up as 1976, something must be wrong, that's a big difference. Is it black and has blue stripes on it?

You may look it up at the Maxrules.com website model guide. I will bet it is '75 or '76. it had a distributor ignition right? 1988 motors have the six coil ADI ignition.
