Re: how to fix these damn holes

Need more info. Are they physically holes? Or is light just passing thru? What is the age of the boat? She has a bad case of boat pox and if she's fairly old she may not be worth the effort and or cost to bring her back to life.

the photos are blurry on my puter.......but yes....it does look like boat pox.

the light coming thru is of no worries.

it looks like someone may have bottom painted the hull many times to try and hide the issues.

another coat will help to hide it....

fixing it is something you might not want to do !

Hello the holes are only to the fiberglass. I have just put a new motor and leg on this boat. so not doing something is not a option.
its a 1973 23 foot Hourston glasCraft. Do I grind out holes and epoxy it. Boat box you call it .. At least I can search that

Re: how to fix these damn holes

osmosis is caused by water in the fiberglass laminate.

it can be repaired....however, the process is long and involved.

basicaly you remove all the gellcoat from the boat, grind off the top layer of fiberglass.....let the hull dry out for a few months....add another layer of fiberglass....fair it....add an epoxy coating barrier.....then paint the bottom of the hull.

to have a pro do it...it will be well over 5 grand.

and even then...THERE IS NO GAURENTEE that the repair will work totally

Sand with 60 grit sandpaper, spray compressed air into holes and grind a little gel coat if not dry. Get 3m fiberglass MARINE filler. sand. either gelcoat and sand or coat bottom of boat with epoxy barrier coat. top off with antifouling paint.
