Hi,

I am buying probably two small speed boats to get the engines and then sell the trailer to get a bit of money back.

how do i dispose of the hull though? can i just take it to a skip and how much do they charge?

also... would ( for example) a mercury 115hp 1994 and a mariner 115hp 1991 work as dual engines? it's much cheaper to get what comes along then to go hunting for two the same

Thanks

Nathan

Call your municipal dump. Some will take the glass boats straight up. Others you have to cut 'em up first. If it's aluminum, well, recycle.....

Find out what your costs for disposal will be BEFORE you buy.

It used to be that you could dispose of anything at the landfill for a few bucks. Now between haulage and disposal costs you could easily lose money.

Cutting up a fiberglass boat is a huge mess and would be very time consuming. All the fiberglass dust is also a health hazzard. Unless you can dispose of the whole boat at once, I can't it being worth it.

You could check with local race tracks i know they have demolition derbys, mud truck racing and actually need objects to jump and destroy sometimes, just a thought.

Crank up the 'ol chainsaw.

Around here BFI and Waste Management will take a boat hull for around $150. Local landfill won't take the whole boat, but if you cut her up you can take the fiberglass and "remains."

Oddly, though - I'd be tempted to try selling the hull along with the trailer just for the fun of it. I've been amazed at what I've actually gotten money back out of on CraigsList.

Sawzall - garbage can sized pieces, boat will be gone with your regular trash in a few weeks.

A big "FREE" sign and park it at the curb.

Both good suggestions. Down here they actually have demo derbies with guys pulling boats.

Chainsaw's a lil messy. Might I suggest a sawzall with a carbide blade? Lot less dust.

I've sawed up several jet skis and at least 2 boats. Around here if you can make it fit in a garbage can they'll take it.

My neighbor had a 22' boat and cut it up using a sawzall. Took him about 1.5 months using his trash can, which is picked up twice a week. He sold the aluminum tanks for scrap and anything else that was metal. I bought the aluminium trailer from him. I'm rehabbing it and going to get rid of the galvanized one I'm currently using.

I remember a time when you could drag a dead elephant to the curb and it'd be gone in the morning. Ahh the good old days ...

Yes to your question about the Merc and Mariner, same mfg.If the compression is about the same they should run great together.Probably good to have two Tachs so you can sync them at speed. As suggested, try selling, then putting out front with free written all over them, people use them for lawn ornaments,pub/bar decoration. Not sure if you have Craigslist over there or what you use for waste disposal.

I got rid of one last year, I called the landfill and they told me to bring it on. I pulled in the building where they sort through the trash and started to push it off then the front end loader operator dropped his bucket down in the boat and I drove off with the trailer. but that's TN, worked out sweet for me.

That's how I would do it. use a water hose on the blade and there won't be much "dust"

Fiberglass boat - Sawzall to slow for my taste. Chainsaw is messy. Circular saw is fast and clean. Might need a sawzall to help out the circular saw though. on some cuts

Re: how to get rid of a boat?

Thanks for the advice, not sure cutting it up is option because my parents live in a 'picture perfect' house and a half a hull on the driveway would be a crime agianst humanity for them...

I'm thinking of sticking the hulls on ebay for 99p? if i leave the seats, gauges and controls with it i'm thinking i might actually get some bids as they only need to fit a outboard to get it to work?

thanks for all the great advice
