how to get right control cables

Hi guy's
Do not know if i should post question here.

I'am changing control cables and would like to know how to messure for new ones.:confused:

for what motor and control, there are different cables. measure from control, to transom, the side to motor center, add 2-3 feet. also look on the sheath of the existing cable, it should have a number on it.

The motor is a 40 hp 64 johnson on a 14 ft boat.
Tha fella before me replaced them, but they seem to be too long.
I have all the right connector hardware,
Was just woundering how and were to mesure from

Most people try to use them too short. The best way for them to lay is to go past the motor, then make a loop back to the attchment point. That way, when you steer back and forth, the loop just rolls. "S" curves are to be avoided.

If you feel your existing ones are the wrong length, just use them as a guide and add or subtract from their measurement. They come every 1' increments.
