Asked this question on the general topic but got no answer. Maybe you can help me here.

I bought a 1969 Reinell 22' boat that I have a problem with that I can't figure out. The boat has a spoke type steering wheel with a long screw, aprox 2" long and a knob on the end which you turn in to tighten the steering and turn out to loosen the steering. The problem is that the screw is frozen and it's on the bottom of the steering wheel. I tried shooting PB Blaster up but as you know that doesn't work well. Tried a vice grip on the knob and it just broke. Tried the vice grip on the screw and it just turns around it with no movement of the screw.

Any ideas on how I might remove a 2" (showing) screw?

Well, we can't all buy new boats.

But when you buy an old one, you need to expect and learn how to deal with rusted / stuck fasteners.

Penetrating oil, heat, drill / tap /helicoil will become your best friends. Some things simply cannot be removed and you end up replacing / finding a work around.
