I'm fixing to hook up some electronics on the console of my c/c---vhf, fish finder, and gps.

Question is what's the best way to hook 'em to 12vdc? I'm thinking about multiple cigarette lighter sockets and plug 'em into those.

Any better ideas?

I would install one of these fuse blocks then if/when you need to install something else its wired and ready.

Just run some 10 or 8 guage wire from the battery (fused at the 12 volt source) to the fuse panel. Then wire from panel to accessories.

Are you talking about portable gear that you will be taking in and out, or permenant connections?

If permanent then you should wire it in and not use the cigarette lighter sockets.

If it's portable, instead of cig connections, use BNC connectors, make sure you buy BNC caps to cover them when not in use, they are much smaller, and have a positive lock. They do, however, require you modify the equipment end of the cable, so if you are using it in more than one vehicle, either convert both vehicles to have BNC power connectors or make a few BNC/Cig adapters.

One of the fuse blocks is good. I used a bus bar: two strips, one + and the - connected to the battery. I mounted it in a waterproof plastic case and drilled holes to insert wires. Almost everything comes with in in-line fuse, so I didn't add fuses to the bus. It's neat and easy to get to when adding or changing equipment.
