Hi, i need to know how to hook up my dads 150hp mercury 1998 to the garden hose, my dad passed away a couple years ago and my mom wants me to sell his boat.... id like to have it running for any potential buyers to see. i looked on youtube and all the motors on there have intake vents to put muffs on, i do not see the intake vents on this motor to slide the muffs over. can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks, Dennis

You have side vents. Theyre just blocked to the side by the side plates. You can take those off or just put the muffs over them.

Thank you for the reply, i will try that. are they blocked off just for storage, or do i put them back on when the boat goes in the water?

Look like homemade "scoops" that deflect water straight into tha intake holes. Some use 'em ta run tha motor a tad higher than usual..........

Yeah, you arent blocking the intake. Its just a scoop to let you lift the motor higher.

lower was not modified, its just how it came, i do not think the covers were homemade, they both have the word "top" stamped into them.

i think what you are seeing is just a y-bar that is used to support then weight of the engine when its raised up, there is foam over the ends that go against the motor.

Merc sells 'em plus some after market. I'd leave 'em on it for now. Your Dad put 'em on there for a reason. Like said "usually ta get a little more height on tha motor". It might suck a little air without 'em.......They actually do help on a stock gear case at any motor height.
