I have a 50 HP Force (US Marine) attached to a 1989 Playbuoy pontoon. The serial number tag on the clamp bracket is missing and I can't find a block number on a welch plug like most other engines. How can I identify this for parts lookup?

For the moment you may just have to assume that it's a 1989. That was one of the US Marine years. I don't think there were any significant changed to them during those years anyhow. Chryslers used to put the tag under the hood on the pan near the carb. Try looking there.

Nope, already looked there I had another 125 that had it there, that's how I knew to look there. The block has a casting symbol on it that appears to have an 89 in the center of it (the symbol is round). I would think that this is the date of manufacture for quality control. I'm mostly interested in identifying the correct model, there's about twenty choices on the parts lookup sites I've been to. (IShopmarine.com and Boats.net)

Compare what you have to parts diagrams or repair manual.<br />The main differences will be in the lower unit and waterpump. Also the ignition system, fuel pump (square or round), and carb.
