How to identify Force Model Number

I recently purchased a 1989 maxum with an 85 hp outboard force on it. I am trying to identify the model # for the engine, unfortunately the previous owners overheated the engine and melted off the ID sticker on the back of the engine. My title doesnt have the model number on it either.

Any help would be apritiated!

Look on the port side engine transom bracket there may be a tag with the model and serial number there if you can still read it, mines faded out on my 1989 125 Force. Hope this helps.

Look for a number stamped on the rear of the block. Exhaust cavity side near the top, right next to the head. Call Mercury customer service and they can cross reference that number to a model number and year through their data base.
