I there any way to determain what this lower unit goes to if that's all I have? I know its for a large Force engine, identification stops there. I can't say I have ever seen numbers on a lower unit casing, is there?

Suggest getting on the mercruiserparts.com website.
They have exploded view diagrams of all Force motors.

Key features to help narrow it down:
Thru hub exhaust, exhaust snout, or both?
color, white, 80's USMarine, charcoal, Mercury Force.
Prop shaft diameter and number of splines.
Driveahaft splines.
Waterpump type.
Shiftshaft connection - cotterpin-older, threaded-newer.

I thought I was pretty good with computers, but I can not figure out how to attach a picture to this subject. Is there an easy explanation on how to do this?

First off, the picture has to be on the internet somewhere, not just in your computer.

You can put your pictures up on a free internet picture hosting server. Here is one that is run by SONY
http://www.imagestation.com/

Note, signing up with this site will put you on their mailing list, but what do you expect for nothing?

Sign up, upload your image.

To post a picture on iboats:

Go to the full sized picture on the internet or hosting site, not a thumbnail.
Right click, then click "properties".
Highlight the URL address,
then right click on it and click "copy".
THe URL must end with "jpg"

Now come back to you post here on iboats.
Click the "FULL REPLY FORM" button below the reply dialogue box.
Click the "image" button that appears below the dialog box.
Paste the URL into the text box.
Click ok.
