Newer engine blocks do not the provision for mechanical fuel pumps, the casting is there and the threaded holes but no hole for the rod. Some people get confused on how to install one and hoping this might be helpful
Unscrew fuel lines from pump and remove pump. ,if converting to a electric pump remove the rod and install the block off plate and gaskets
Mount new electric pump to the existing fuel line from the carb. Now create/modify/ make the pump mounting plate fit the engine block holes, or add an additional bracket to it.
Using a section of 3/8 steel brake line and a double flaring tool create the new line from the pump inlet to the fuel sep inlet. There are 2 inlets on the filter housing, use the one most conveinent. You mat need a 90 deg street elbow in brass.
Take your time to bend, double flare and install the fuel line, test for leaks
install a pressure switch and wire the switch to a fuel pump relay from a GM Blazer . In most cases if a fuel pump draws too much current for some reason it burns out the oil pressure switch and the motor dies.Using a fuel pump relay that can handle up to 30amps prevents this. Using the outermost post on the starter solenoid, install a wire to the fuel pump relay coil. This will energize the relay to provide power to the pump while cranking
