I have an aluminum Polar Kraft Jon boat with a bench seat. Want to add swivel seats that can be removed. Type of seat bracket I am using has a 3/4" post under the seat and a base that attaches to the bench seat. Was told there was no wood in this aluminum boat but there is a 1" piece of plywood right under the bench seat. Plan was to install threaded stainless steel inserts that mushroom out on the other side of the aluminum and secure the base to those.
Holes have been cut. Problem now is how to secure the base. Have thought of two options. Getting longer inserts that will mushroom out on the other side of the 1" plywood or screwing directly into the plywood with wood screws. The first option sounds the best. Is there another type of threaded insert I can use to secure the seat base, something that might securely attach to the plywood? Don't think wood screws will hold up over time.
