I have a 1978 Evinrude 175 HP V6 175849c with temperature warning switches only. I would like to install two systems; one to continually monitor engine temperature and one that monitors water pressure. Where would I mount the sending unit and water temperature sending unit?

Thanks,

Re: how to install temperature sending unit

Hi DC. The experts should be along soon, but i did put a temp sensing unit on my 3 cyl 70 hp Rude, and it was simple, The unit comes with easy to follow directions. I mounted mine on the top cyl. using one of the head bolts to hold the bracket. You just make sure that the sensor makes good contact with the head. As far as the water pressure sending unit, that will also come with directions in the kit, you will tap into the water jacket somewhere ( I haven't installed one on my outboard (Yet)).

Team.... That is an original unit designed for any heat gauge, and it is listed in many of the OMC accessory catalogs. I can't get at the part number right now as the alarm is set. Your local marine dealership can get it for you. They've been around for as long as I can remember.

Teleflex makes a temp gauge and it includes the sender. A water pressure gauge does not use a sender. It simply Tees into the tell-tale via a tube going to the pressure gauge. This is a non-electric gauge and is also available from Teleflex. Mechanical auto temp gauges will not work as the capillary tube is not long enough and the threaded sender is too large. Cylinder head temp gauges are also available that measure cylinder head temp rather than water temp. These sensors are contact types and do not protrude into the water jacket.
