How to know if my shift linkage assembly was put together correctly?

Hello everyone,
I was a complete idiot and removed the shift pivot screw when changing the oil. (85 force 85hp) I knew exactly what I did when I did it. I think that it is all back together again, but is there a way to tell and make sure before I put it back in the water?

Shift the gear in forward and you should feel the clutch dog engage the forward gear and prop shoult turn when flywheel turn..
Shift to neutral and the prop should turn freely when turning the flywheel and then shift into reverse and the reverse gear should be engage by the clutch and the prop should turn when flywheel turn (opposite rotation when forward gear).

As stated above but it's not that easy to turn the flywheel with the plugs in. So make sure you remove all the plugs first before doing so. Or you could just use the prop to find out if the gear is actually shifting. Shift control lever to forward (engine off) go back to the prop and you should not be able to turn it. Back to neutral and it should rotate freely and reverse, then it should be free to turn again.

Lastly, start the motor on the driveway with muffs for cooling water. You can shift into Fwd, N or Rev without revving and see the prop turn accordingly if it actually shifts. Just make sure the prop is clear of the hose and other items in the area.

Drive still off??
WAY EASIER if it's off.
Pull up on the shift rod as you spin the prop shaft.
Then push down to N as you spin the shaft, the shaft should just turn.
Then push all the way down as you spin the shaft.
It should lock in gear both ways if it's in right.
