How to Measure the steering cable ??

How do I get the correct steering cable length, Mines measures 16' TOTAL including the rack. But how are they odrered. By length of the cable only, The total length etc???

Mine feeds thru the engine mount and has a big nut on the inner portion and the rod goes thru to the other side and is connect to the steering arm of the motor. Is this a STANDARD? Or is this Manufacturer specific ?

Also: Anyone know a trick for getting some lube Up the cable ?? I cant get the stern end out without removing the motor. The shaft is too long to come out straight with the motor mounted.....ARGHHH!!!

Teleflex has a good instructions on how to measure for a new cable. Their instructions worked perfect for me when I needed to get a cable/helm, I didn't have the old cable to help figure it out.
