My pontoon boat is getting new interior. the steering console is a light
tan and is peeling the clearcoat, some spots have already faded where
the clearcoat has been gone. It is a hard plastic or fibergalss curved surface if you know what i mean. Im thinking of using a duplicolor vinyl and dash
paint but dont know if it will hold up outside. any suggestions on what someone has used or what i can use. this is a sun tracker brand pontoon boat dash. Thanks, matt

Hand sand it to get into the curved areas. Sand it very well down to fresh gel or if it is plastic and it and rough it up a tad with like 220 grit paper, then clean it well with acetone and tack cloth it.

After you tack cloth it, it should be really good and clean so you can paint it with what ever good quality primer you can get ahold of. Give it 2 coats of primer, then sand it with 220 grit, and if you want a high gloss finish wet sand it with 400 grit after each coat of paint increase the grit between coats by 200 until you have 2-3 coats and clean it with acetone after each coat is sanded. When you get your final coat of color on, dont sand it, rather spray it with a quality clear coat to seal and protect it.

This should give you a great finish, but as always the quality comes out if you fully follow the steps and sand and clear the surface really good. Prep is the key.

Rustolium can be done very well if it is glass/gelcoat, and Krylon fusion will do wonders if it is plastic. Mask it off and spray it in short bursts from side to side 6-8 inches away. Dont make your coats too heavy or you will have sags and runs. Follow the directions on the can as far as temp requirements, time between coats etc.

Good luck man and post pics! :)

I used Krylon fusion on my Tracker party barge and it worked great. Just sand and clean well before painting. The fusion paint is made for plastics.
