Hi, new to this forum and i hope I'm posting this under the right catagory:confused:. I just bought a 1988 205 Four Winns Sundowner. Boat needs some minor repair like hatch clamps and cuddy door repair (more on that later). I noticed the depth finder transducer came loose in the bilge. What is the best epoxy to use to remount it and is there any special prep that needs to be done. Thanks in advance for any/all help.:)

I am assuming it is the kind that the sending unit is glued to the inside of the hull (no holes). I don't know if there is another substitute or not, but I would get ahold of the manufacturer and buy a little pack of their stuff. Shouldn't cost much and you'll know that there won't be any damage to the sender..

Hello medic and welcome to Iboats .. :) ..

You dont Epoxy anything other then repairs .. foremost ..

This is a through hull ducer i gather .. Plastic Nut broken ?

For any Underwater Through Hull fitting ( ducer or water fitting etc. ) you would remove..clean/prep with sandpaper or scotch bright .. caulk with 4200 or 5200 depending.

Transducers I normally put 5200 on the flange only..and 3m 4(2)00 on the thread/nut mount .

Re: How to remount thru-hull transducer

I should clearify, this is a transducer that is mounted in the bilge area and shoots through the bottom. It's the factory ducer that came loose. It looks like it was glued/epoxied to the hull and just came loose. Thanks again for the help.

Any epoxy will do, run down to Lowes or HomeDepot and get a couple tubes or 5 minute epoxy, it will work fine. The most important thing is to mix the epoxy slowly so air does not get mixed in, then mount the ducer slowly so air does not get trapped underneath it. The last time I did one, I stole my kids playdough and made a "dam" to keep the epoxy contained, then set the ducer in the pool of epoxy.

Get the 30 minute epoxy. Easier to work with
