I've got a 1960 Johnson Seahorse 5.5hp CD-17. The steering bracket is from an earlier model and is about to be replaced. I've got a new(used) one on the way and started to remove the old one tonight. The powerhead and lower unit are all removed. Does anyone know which bolts need to be removed to get the steering bracket off? I've removed the two bolts (pic #2) but can't see why it won't come off. I see the bolts in pic #3 but don't see an easy way of getting to them without removing the top section.

Thought a CD-17 was a white motor.------Undo lower thrust mounts.-------Undo side mounts.----Should come free.

Yes, it is a white motor but it has a steering bracket from an earlier motor. It was replaced in a pinch decades ago, but I found a new white one to make it look stock again.

Much appreciated racerone. I didn't exactly know that the mounts I took a picture of were called "thrust mounts." I dug around and finally realized that the lower ones are hidden within a set of covers. Once those were loose, it still took a 2x4 and a swift hit from the deadblow hammer to separate it from the steering bracket. Everything afterward was pretty easy to figure out.

Thanks!
