I need to take the registration #s and decals off my hull for painting. I
used to get those off by using a heat gun and pulling. Worked reasonably
well.

But, it leaves stickum. How do I get the stickum off with the least outlay
of cash? Any cheap, readily available chemicals that are solvents for
adhesive remnants?

There are plenty of non toxic solvents on the market. Forgot the names but one is orange scented.
Any hardware store should carry it.

WD-40 usually works. Also gasoline and it won't hurt the finish. Just wash and wax well afterward

i use a solution that is called "de-solve-it" It is a citrus based cleaner that will remove anything sticky. It is the best I have found, got it at home depot.

I just got done with that fun-fest. Acetone took the goo right off. Wear rubber gloves, that stuff is harsh on the skin.
