I have removed all the bolts and the lower will move down about 1" and seems to get stuck? I have tried in neutral forward and reverse. Perhaps something to do with the shift linkage? Is there some way I need to disconect it? A little pointer here would be appriciated.

The reason I am removing it is because I want to replace the water pump. I havent started it in 2 years and when I did I wasnt getting much flow out of the telltale. I always had good flow before. I checked the telltale tube and it is clear of blockage.

Thanks.

:confused:I have removed 5 bolts out of the lower unit and removed the slider from the shifter so its free to drop but the lower unit is looking like the side opposite of the prop is a bit loose (a slight split at the gasket) but on the prop side it is still very tight. Am I missing something?

some outboards have another bolt thats usually under the removable zinc/trimtab.i know a couple of mercs i had had that .also some had a hole at the top of where the trimtab is that had a bolt in there.right at the end of the casing,it can be hard to see and i think it was a 12 point bolt if i remember right.
