How to Remove Outer Inch of Floor - Without Hitting Hull

OK, I got a 3in circular saw and it made quick work of the floor, except near the edges. How do I remove the outer edge without going into the hull? I have left 1-2 inches around the perimeter in fear of going into the hull.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You now know the thickness of the plywood deck, so either set the circular saw to a depth of the plywood thickness and cut some more, or get a grinder and grind it out. Either way, the last bit will have to be smoothed with a power sander and heavy grit disk.

You can take a serious amount of materoal like that off with a 40 grit flaper disk on a high speed grinder... it's also kind f nice to leave the bottom lip of glass there so you can set the new wood right donw on it...

i found the best method was to use a 4.5" angle grinder with a thin cutting wheel. i was able to do very close cuts easily. in close corners where the grinder wouldn't fit, i used a drummel. the drummel works great for precision cuts where the grinder wouldn't fit. i tried a circular saw, but hated it.

I usually saw the floor away leaving a short piece near the edge, I then start by just scoring the perimeter with a sharp knife, I can usually cut through the surface layer of glass, then I pull the wood out by hand. This works more often then not.
For those that won't budge, it's a trim saw set shallow, cut 3/4" through and pick at and grind the rest. A little patience now can save a lot of work later.

I used an air hammer with a cutting chisel tip. Working pretty good until I went through the hull. After that I grabbed the floor, bent at the knees and lifted real hard. Worked pretty good.

I've had a lot of luck with this pneumatic cut off tool

Of course you need a decent air compressor to keep up with it. I've been religiously keeping it well lubricated.
I'm going to cut out the rest of the decking on Sunday. Check my blog on Sunday night to see the results.

Cheers,
Nick
