Hi
I would love to know If there is a simple way to remove a very fine overspray on my cuddys windows. Its two compound paint,Its been there I while. The paper blew off when guy was painting my hull.He did not bother to cover back up.
He used a airless.
I can kind of scratch it of with my fingernail but I was wondering if somebody knew a better sollution?
The windows are made of plexiglass..
Much thanx in advance.

Try some Goo Gone in a small unoticable area and make sure it doesn't melt the plastic but you should be fine and that should get it off, also use a really fine cotton cloth so that doesn't scratch it.

Assuming the surface is glass, a single edged razor blade, or if you want a handle, a handle that accepts single edge razor blades. Set the blade at about a 20 degree angle to the glass and push. It just lifts right up and over the cutter and leaves a clean surface behind.

Try 00 steel wool, then polishing compound to bring back the gloss. It's either that or paint thinner but that may ruin the other paint if it gets on the surface.

Rubbing compound and a soft towel.A fine automotive polish may even remove it.Keep the solvents and steel wool away from it,unless you want to replace the 'glass.

With a razor blade you don't have any concern with damaging the glass, loosing it's clarity, having a haze that you have to buff or any of that crap.

If you don't believe me, and I really don't care whether or not you do, take a piece of glass and spray it to your heart's content with 2 or 3 full cans of paint if that suits you. Let it dry and do what I said. Simple as that.

I just finished putting a paint job on the back door of my house that had a plastic 9 panel separator on a large double pain (thermal rated) glass insert, about 2 1/2' x 3 '. I painted the external plastic separator to my satisfaction covering all of the glassed area in the process of getting it done. I let it dry and then in about 20 minutes, cleaned off the 9 pane area like it was never painted. Followed up with a foam window cleaner and magic cloth and you didn't know the glass was there. Take it or leave it. The advice is free. The choice is yours.

Best shot is to call the paint company. PRAY you get technical support. Ask for them. Then see if the person really understands your problem. If he says something like use a solvent. Call the Plexiglass companies for their advice. Might really be better. They have heard everything good & bad.

Just love it when I pay a " Pro " to do a screwup on my stuff.

you can try this.

place a blue shop towel over the window and soak with WD40. let sit for about an hour. remove the towel, then clean window with windex. the WD40 should loosen the paint from the plexi. I have done it on tail light lenses with success. also works to remove old masking tape. Goo-gone works once in a while. DO NOT USE LACQUER THINNER

Lots of good replies for dealing with the over spray on plexi. Like everyone said stay away from a razor or serious abrasives. Get a plastic lens polish kit for afterwards and you should be fine.

You might try a clay bar from an automotive store

My VW railbuggy windshield is plexiglass and all I use to clean it is a terry cloth rag and WD-40. Of course a plexiglass polish from the auto parts store will work great to remove fine scratches. No razor blades, scrapers, abrasives, steel wool for plexiglass! Good Luck!:)

Thats how we do it in the auto body business all the time! Simple and highly effective!

Okaye. Makes the problem worse in trying to get the paint off without marring the surface. I had a plastic pair of glasses a couple of years ago and used a light grape colored translucent paper, made to clean glasses....don't remember the name.

After cleaning, I put the glasses on and they had finite scratches all over them making it hard to see through them clearly. I was appalled and didn't understand what had happened until I read the "fine" print on the wiper's container where it said: "Do not use on plastic lenses".

So, good luck.

A few years back a certian model of Cadilac cars had a special coating on the inside of the windshield and you had to use a plastic scraper (like the razor blade ones) to remove inspection stickers or it would scratch the windshield.
