I need help removing a stuck prop on a 9.9 long shaft johnny. The nut and washer come off but the prop is stuck. Tried wd40, tried a mallet and a block of wood. I was told to use penetrating iol spareingly because of its alkaline charecteristics which can eat up seals, also told not heat because of the hub and seal?

any tips, cant find a way to get a puller on their either.

thanks
TF

Do a search for stuck prop in the various outboard repair forums. Here's how I got the prop off my Merc kicker - I'm assuming it would be essentially the same with yours.

stuck prop

Bottom line is I had to rent a puller from an equipment rental that would fit it.

Bad news is that its common to have to trash the rubber hub to remove a stuck prop. Good news is that it is likely the replacement or repair won't be extremely expensive. You might want to check on that before you decide how much time to spend saving it vs. trashing it.

Good luck.

I'm sorry, I can't help there. My merc prop was/is all metal. I was able to put the point of the puller against the end of the prop shaft and the hooked arms in the space between the prop and the lower unit housing. (if that makes sense). I don't know if/how that would apply to your Johnny.

The prop puller basically grabs the prop blades and pushes against the prop shaft. If the prop is really that stuck, a puller may not do any good.....you may end up cutting it off. What you don't want to do is injure the prop shaft. They do cost a little more than a new prop.

A new 9.9 prop cost about $85....a new prop shaft goes for about $197 + the extra cost to get it installed.
