Hi all,

I have a 96 bayliner 18 ft. I just bought the boat for a low price. The floor was sagging in one spot infront of the ski well. I pulled the carpet and see a hole in the wood. The wood is rotton in a couple other small places.

Is there any directions on how to replace the floor or a piece of the floor. I know i have to coat the wood ect, but where do i cut into the old floor and how do i attach the new piece?

I will try to get some pics up later. Any articals out there on how to do this?

thanks a lot

Re: How to repair a floor?

Since you already have a hole start from there, tear out enough around the rot till you can stick your arm in use a flashlight and mirror or whatever you can to locate the stringers, get a measurement and chalkline the stringer layout and start cutting, set the depth on your circular saw to no deeper than the thickness of the existing floor, go slowly when you get close to the stringers, you want to land right dead center of it so you have an edge to screw your new wood to, I'm no expert by far, but thats how I did mine with great results, lucky for me the stringers were solid, I used stainless countersunk screws and glassed it all in above and below. There's so many different teqniques and circumstances you'll just have to get in there and do it, just watch for the stringers and bulkheads, you don't want to be cutting into anything but that floor layer, if you end up hitting some wires like for the tank sending unit or something thats ok it can be fixed easily, just don't do anything stupid like cut through a stringer.

Try searching links over at boat restoration. You should be able to find everything you need to do the repairs right. You will need to repair more than just the "deck" (not floor)
