How to set adjustment screws,,1951 Johnson

Just cleaned a carb on a buddys 1951 35hp johnson but I ned to know about where to set the 2 knobs on the front of the motor. The top knob is smaller,and the bottom knob is the larger of the 2. What do these control,,will they affect idle,,it seems a bit rough now.

I didn't know there was a '51 johnson 35hp, only a 25hp. Either way, look in the "top secret file" thread at the top of this forum, and find Joe Reeves' carb adjustment thread. It's super helpful. You can only set the high speed needle on the lake at high throttle, reset the slow needle after setting the fast needle.

Dont quote me on that year,that is what he said might not be right. Which knob would be low speed and which would be high speed.
