How do i set the timing on a 1986 5.7 4bbl carb with thunderbolt ignition? Engine is back in the boat so i need to set the timing to 4 deg btdc. I have a timing lite is there anything i have to disconnect prior to setting timing?

Timing on the TB-4 ignition is the old aim the gun, turn the distributor to the proper degree.
But where did you come up with 4? BTDC as the proper spec. 6? to 8? sounds more like the right spec to me.
