I have a 1959 Evinrude 35 horse. I think it was a brand new engine when something happened that it got some sand in the cylinders. Great shape except for that. Pistons stuck presantly in bores. have the powerhead off. Also head off.
Cant turn crank because pistons stuck. Tried bumping piston tops with wood block and dead blow. No-go.
I want to remove the bottom case so I can get the pistons out and try hoaning the bores to see how bad they are.
Got the bolts out of the edges and the 4 big bolts out. Tried bumping the crank to break the seal on the halves.
Dont want to do that too hard to bend the crank. Very little on the case to push on that wouldnt bend, distort or
otherwise ruin a perfect case. If I can get the bottom case off -- I can at least get the rods loose from the crank
and be better able to deal with the stuck pistons. When looking through the side ports-- I see one of the rings
looks broken because the end is sticking upward at an about 15 degree angle. That may prevent the piston from being withdrawn.
But how the heck to I get the seal between the case halves parted without bending or breaking something.
If I hit the crank with the pistons stuck--- I may be damaging the rod bearings and mains too. Is there a secret trick
here to split the case ?
