Both mixture control knobs (if you have both high speed and low speed adjustments) should be set to the mid point of their ranges, (Top one is lows peed bottom one is high speed)
Open tank vent, open fuel tap.
Allow sufficient time for fuel to fill the carb bowl.
Pull choke knob fully
Open throttle a bit, to the starting mark if there is one or a bit further
Pull string!
If the carb is correctly adjusted you should not need set the mixture knobs anywhere but half way.
With experience you may find you need more or less throttle, you may find you have to push the choke back part way fairly promptly. (You may even find you can make some use of the mixture adjustments).
