Re: how to start engine on key using choke?
Neither the lever nor the push key is a choke. These engines don't have a choke.

The lever is just a fast idle lever, not a choke. It is used to increase the idle while it's in neutral. Sometimes called a cold start lever.

Pushing in the key doesn't choke the engine, it primes it - pumps fuel from the carburetor fuel bowls up into the cylinders. But, this is pretty much used like a choke would be used.

Each outboard has it's own starting procedure, but here's what I do which seems to be typical:

Pump bulb until firm
Raise fast idle lever
Turn key to on (do not start) and push it in for a full, long count of at least 8 seconds.
Start engine - push key in again for short "bumps" as needed to keep it running.

What's often missing in people's starting procedure which causes problems is holding that key in for a pretty long 8 + second count before starting.

Good luck, hope this helps.
