How To Stop Task Tray Popup Balloons?

A few weeks ago there was a query here about how to suppress those annoying popup balloons from the task tray...your computer might be at risk, click here to fix! As I recall it was something to do with a minor reg edit, but I can’t find that thread. Anyone remember how to do it, or what the subject line of the thread was?

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then press ENTER. <br />2. Navigate to the following subkey:<br />HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced <br />3. Right-click the right pane, create a new DWORD value, and then name it EnableBalloonTips. <br />4. Double-click this new entry, and then give it a hexadecimal value of 0. <br />5. Quit Registry Editor. Log off Windows, and then log back on.<br /><br />Or, you can download Tweakui and there is a checkbox in there that you can clear to disable them....<br /><br /> web page

Thanks, Rick! Went flawless. Btw, default vlaue for a new DWORD value thingy is a hex 0.<br /><br />What I started doing is to clip the nifty tips like this one (forgot to when originally posted) and sending it gmail to myself. Lets Google store and catalog the nifty computer tips for me. And it is protected off-site, and I can access the info from any other computer, anywhere.<br />

Task tray= where the clock is, bottom right.<br /><br />Popup balloons= those little yellow things that pop up out of an icon down there, say "there are new updates available for your computer"<br /><br />Reg edit= too complicated for me to explain.

I used to know what that stuff was.<br />But it really is amazing how fast we forget, when you stop using a pc.<br /><br /><br />

Yes, that's it! I was going for Caesar but Caesar is just so yesterday. When I heard the name 18rabbit it was so stupid I had to love it. Can't imagine a king actually called 18rabbit.
