How to take apart a Glastron GXL 235

I am looking into putting a Aerial Airborne on my boat. My first question is how to even get to the access points you need to attach the tower from the inside. It appears to me that it is a stretch to get to unless you take it apart. I am not very good with boats and how the best way to get to the locations are. My second wonder is if this is the proper tower for the boat I have. I have not seen a lot and am extremely cautious of spending that much money on a tower that I am not sure will work good on my boat. I have a 2007 Glastron gxl 235. Then if it is easy to get to the locations where I will bolt it on, does it need reinforced or is the gelcoat thick enough? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

To gain access, you will have to get creative... take out a stereo, glovebox, get on the floor and put your head in the storage areas and look up and around. You will have to add some backing plates of some sort... something like 3/8 aluminum plate, or maybe 3/4 plywood would work too. maybe talk with a glastron dealer and see what tower they recommend. I like no towers personally... i think the boat looks cleaner. And you sir have a nice looking boat right now.

What kind of dimensions are we talking for a backing plate? I figured someone on here had put a tower on my model or a 225 even. they are about the same on the inside as far as getting to where you would put the backing plate on. I have seen a picture of one with a monster tower on but I am not skilled at putting wake towers on so I was just looking for a few pointers. And thanks for your time helping me out...

I would think a 4"x8" backing plate would work.... or something close. Depends on how big the tower hardware footprint is. Attaching
backing plates some people might want you to use 3m 5200 to glue in your plates. Just depends how over the top you are.

I have heard a few horror stories of tower installs. Measure three or more times! Look at where it will be going. Take a step back and look at the entire package before drilling.

Heres a pic i found. Not sure of brand... but might help.

So you think the best way to figure out the proper way to take apart my boat is to just call the glastron dealer? Or should I call a wake board tower installation shop?

I have never been around the installation but figured I could put it on for less than 500 or what ever a shop would charge.

To "take apart" your boat... just have a look. Get on the floor and look upward toward the rub rail area. Look under the dash area... i bet you can see most areas without taking anything apart. I was suggesting asking what tower the dealer would suggest putting on... since you were unsure of your choice. Also, see what they would charge... it might be worth your time... and it might not. You might be better off spending the extra time at work getting some ot... to pay for the install labor. Sometimes you gotta weigh it each way... especially if you have never done it before. I have never done one either... but i would give it a go (if i was into towers)

Yeah I agree I will have to look further into it. Thanks for the help. I was kind of hoping someone who had done one would see this and share how they went about doing it.

You may want to try posting or look in the wakeboard forum which is below this forum, not that anyone here has given you bad advice, but that forum has a ton of post about wakeboard towers..

Re: How to take apart a Glastron GXL 235

My buddy put on a assault tower on his GX205 and had to use fiberglass backing plates due to the VEC hull. VEC hulls are thin and need reinforcement. In order to access the areas where the tower was installed holes had to be cut behind the cushions in the area accessed. I would either talk to an installer who has done this or investigate installation of the tower. Make sure the tower fits the boat. Check out other tower company as well...Monster, Samson, etc.
